Can Thermal Imaging Detect Water Leakage?

Short answer: thermal imaging can detect temperature patterns associated with moisture. It cannot, by itself, prove that a concealed pipe is broken. Anyone who shows you a red-and-blue photo and names a burst pipe from that photo alone is overclaiming.

What a useful scan looks like

The operator walks the stained ceiling and the rooms that could feed it. Cold paths are marked on photographs. The same points are checked visually: joints, outlets, silicone, grout, pipe entries. If the scan and the joint tell the same story, the cause can be Confirmed. If only the scan is interesting, the cause stays Probable or Possible until we open a small verification point.

What a useless scan looks like

• A single wide shot with no marked points.
• No note of ambient temperature, recent rain, or AC vents that also cool a surface.
• A caption that says “pipe leak confirmed” with no other evidence.
• A quote for full bathroom demolition attached to that caption.
