How to Identify the Source of a Recurring Ceiling Leak

A ceiling leak that returns is almost never a paint failure. It is an untreated source, or a treated stain. Walk this order before you pay to break anything.

1. Time the stain

If it grows during a shower upstairs, start with the bathroom. If it grows during rain and the room is on the top floor, start with the terrace. If it grows during rain on a mid floor, look at the balcony, the external wall, and the wet area above.

2. Do not treat the stain from below

Waterproof paint on the ceiling hides the exit. The entry is still open. We will not warrant that work.

3. Scan, then confirm

Thermal mapping of the stained ceiling and the rooms that could feed it. Mark the cold path. Confirm with optical or moisture checks. Label the cause. Open only the minimum point if the evidence is still short of Confirmed.

4. Quote the source, not the square footage of the stain

• Parapet joint on a Kompally terrace, two metres from the bedroom stain.
• Bathroom floor-wall joint in LB Nagar, with the tap line Excluded on the scan.
• Balcony threshold in Miyapur marking the elevation below.
